This year me and my LA class read a book called the “Last Cuentista.” After reading the book we started a project that was based off of it. The project was to create a book with leaves and plants as the illustration to make our ideal world. We had to write a story about our ideal planet, that had to tell what it looks liked, what creatures were there and the basics of the planet. Once we finished making our book, we printed out the words and glued it to the pages of it.
Here is my story:
f you are reading this then that means my studies of the amazing world Tranquility were successful. Humans fled from Earth about 10 years ago due to a series of brutal attacks from horrendous sea monsters that were destroying our world little by little until humans couldn’t bear living on Earth anymore. The government sent about 200 ships to the most peaceful world in the galaxy, not to mention it is 3 times bigger than the Earth! Our civilization has been here for almost 3 years now and we are doing amazing. I have been tasked to explore the areas of tranquility where no one has gone before and document all of the plant and animal life I find.
I enter the world, Tranquility through the portals we have been using to go to other planets. I just returned home from the wonderful world Ruse! I can see shining crystals that are used to light up our towns like a Christmas tree. These crystals are not only used for our source of electricity but are also used as a defense mechanism in case of war between the planets. I found these gorgeous crystals in the beautiful ocean near a rocky cliff. The crystals glowed like firefly’s. Their colors made me feel like I was in a dream.
I cross the enchanting waters by riding on the back of the mystic narwhals that are a stunning blue, pink and purple color and can go up to 300 mph! I can see the island of aurora. I enter the tropical island and see a captivating sunrise that has the colors of a Dahlia flower. There are a variety of different plant and animal species. There is one that specifically caught my eye a few months ago that I have been studying, the guardian peacocks that protect the island from harm. If you ever wish to bring danger upon the island, prepare to face the adorable but vicious birds that will chew you up like a candy bar. Their colors are fascinating. When the bird changes emotion it gets fresh new feathers. When the peacock is angry it’s red, when the peacock is happy it’s yellow, when the peacock is affectionate it changes to pink, when the bird is sick it changes to green and when the peacock is sad or upset it changes to a blue color. I recently found out that all the animals change color based on emotion! I am assuming they do this because it will help us people understand the animals and see what they need or are feeling.
I continue my journey through the large jungle. I am surrounded by plants and vines that are not respecting my personal space. I feel like a turtle that is being suffocated by a plastic bag. Suddenly I feel something slimy wrap around my waist, it feels like a snake is slithering its way around my body. I look to see what it is, it’s a plant, a very, very BIG plant. I try to get out, but I can’t, it’s like I’m trapped in quicksand. I feel a rush of wind underneath me and I am jolted up into the air. I let out a quick scream and then calmed myself down. My mom used to always tell me that if I am in a dangerous situation panicking won’t help. I reach in my bag and grab the Eiffel tower keychain my dad got me when we went to Paris and stab it into the huge plant. I slowly drag it down the vine and it winces. It throws me out of its clutches like I’m a rag doll. As I look up, I can see the plant, it’s not retreating but it’s getting bigger! Before I hit the ground the plant grabs me by my collar and throws me around like it’s kindergarten and I’m the shiny new toy. I think of what I can do. I remember my time back on earth and whenever I felt threatened by my sister, I would always tickle her. Worth a shot! I thought. I reached for the end of the plant and started to tickle it. It let out a few laughs and dropped me to the ground. I tumbled to the forest ground, and I could hear the caws of the frightened birds that I scared from my fall. My eyes are a little hazy, but I manage to pick myself up. There are quite a few scratches all around my body and a large stab-like injury on my jet that is bleeding quite a bit. I use my bandana to tend to the wound. I grab my journal and document the plant and its weakness, tickling I jot down the summary of my experience and name the plant the “violent vines.”
I start walking, being cautious of the vines that cover the rainforest floor. “ROARRR!” I’m startled, my heart is pounding, and my palms are sweating. I feel like I’m back in my 5th grade spelling bee, too nervous to speak or do anything. I have already been through enough with the vines, so I don’t need another accident. My mind is telling me to turn around, but my body is not responding. The next minute was followed by many roars and mumbling, I finally got the courage to at least take a peak and see what this load creature is. My eyes slowly shift to look behind me, but my eyes can’t go far enough to see the animal, so I am forced to turn my head. I let out a sigh of relief, when I saw a cute tiny little furry ball of fluff staring back at me. It looks like a jaguar but not just any jaguar, the little guy has wings! These wings are beautiful, so “Majestic!”, I yell. The little jaguar jumps back in fear. “Oh, it’s okay little guy”, I say reaching for a piece of jerky I saved for myself, but this little guy deserves it more than I do. He comes trotting up to me with a cute innocent smile, he sniffs my hand and eats the piece of meat. The jaguar lets out a tiny roar but not like the ones I heard. A feeling of terror spread throughout my body; this little jaguar must have a mom. I feel something wet and cold drip on my shoulder, I don’t want to, but I look up to see the cute jaguar’s mother dangling from a tree branch. Before I can even run away the mom leaps off the branch like a spider monkey. She looks exactly like her baby but bigger, way bigger. She ran in front of her baby and guarded him with her life. She snarled and I saw all 30 of her teeth. She leaped forward and her breath smelled like rotten onions that had been baking in the sun. I closed my eyes in fear and flinched backwards. I feel something warm and wet slobbery my face, I open my eyes and she isn’t eating me alive; she’s licking me! I watch in awe as her tan plain fur changes to pink, she’s affectionate! I giggle and I feel five years old again, I quickly return to my normal self and part ways with my furry friend.
Okay I think I have had enough of this island. Let’s get out of here. I find my way to the beach and walk toward the shore; I reach my hand in the warm clear ocean water and pick up a beautiful shimmering conch shell. It looks so mesmerizing, like a shard of glass when it hits the sun. I put the end of the shell to my mouth and blew into it. I wait patiently for the arrival of the narwhal to lead me to the mainland. I sit on the sandy shore, and let my guard down, I feel like a sack of potatoes.
A splash of water comes crashing down on me and I am soaked. I look and see the Narwal looking back up at me with a look that says, “It wasn’t me!”
I laugh and get on the cute little sea creature. The narwal takes me to land and I climb off at a rocky shore with a hill to lead you to a dark wooded forest.
“Thank you!” I say as the creature waves goodbye with its tail.
I start climbing the hill, I grunt, my feet feel like I stepped on a thousand nails. I break into a sweat, but I must keep moving.
“Finally!” I shout.
Now that I look at it the hill seems small, but it felt like I was climbing Mount Everest. “Pop, pop, pop!” I look in front of me. What is making that noise? I scan the area, “Pop, pop, pop” I hear. “Wow!” I see a path being lit up by…flowers! The flowers are making a “pop” noise when they spring up with a beautiful glow. “Interesting…I’ll name you Popping posies!”
I follow the flower lit path through the woods. Each step I take is triggering the flowers to pop. The trail ends with the popping posies scattering around a waterfall. Its water is glowing with bioluminescence that makes it look like it is being lit up by firefly’s! I walk to the waterfall and run my hand through it. My eyes open in shock as all the scratches from my fall disappear. I quickly rip off my bandana I used as a band-aid for my wound and move my leg under the refreshing cool water. I watch as my wound slowly disappears. I grab a vial from my bag and run it underneath the waterfall to catch a sample to show the others in the lab when I return.
“Oh, just wait tell Margaret sees this, she’s going to be so jealous and I’m going to get that promotion!” I yell.
“Hey, wipe that smug off your face young lady and be nice!” I hear a voice that sounds like a mouse. it’s so squeaky.
“Wh-who said that!” My voice trembles in fear.
“Me silly!”
No way! A fairy, it’s a real fairy! She has the most elegant wings, they look so fragile, even more delicate than a butterfly wing but still manage to be sturdy, they have an amazing sunset color to them. She has a dust of orange surrounding her, even though it’s almost night it makes her look like sunlight is hitting her beautiful tan skin.
“Oh, I’m sorry I didn’t mean to scare you! My name is Orange Paradise!”
Her voice had a western accent that sounded so sweet and innocent.
“No, you are just fine! I was just a little startled, that’s all.”
“My, my I have never seen someone of your kind here in these woods before!” “Well you see Orange Paradise me and my kind came here from-
“Ooh let me guess, Mars?” “No,”
“Jupiter.”
“No,”
“Venus!”
“For the last time no!”
“Orange Paradise, let this poor woman talk!” I look to my right to see an older, wiser looking fairy flying above my shoulder. She has these purple, pinkish colored wings and a matching dark purple skirt and tank top set on.
“Sorry mama” Orange Paradise says with her head down like a dog that just got yelled at.
“Hello dearie, my name is Flora Mae, Orange Paradise’s mother, also the ruler of this fine city.”
“Fine city?” I ask.
Suddenly tiny lamp posts light up the forest floor and I can see tiny fairy houses, buildings, streets and so many fairies.
“Wow” I whisper under my breath.
“Hey what’s all that ruckus up there!”
“That’s Hank, the grumpiest fairy ever!” Orange Paradise says.
“No Hank sunshine? Or Hank Cherry Blossom?” I ask.
“Nope, just regular old Hank.”
“Why don’t you come have dinner with us and the other fairy villagers!” Flora Mae asks.
“Oh no I couldn’t” I say.
“C’mon, it’ll be super fun” Orange Paradise says with a persuasive voice.
“Okay, fine.” I’m worried about how much food I will get from this. They fly me to a log and I sit down. The bark is itchy and damp, making me go slowly insane. “Here you go!”
Flora Mae hands me a finger sized piece of lump, I’m not quite sure what it is but I’m willing to try anything, I’m starving. I look up and see at least 120 fairies all staring up at me with their cute little torches. I take a bite into the mysterious lump; it tastes as plain as Hank but I smile and say “delicious!” The crowd of fairies burst with happiness and started to cheer. I’m glad that made them happy cause it certainly did not make me. After dinner the fairies made me a beautiful bed out of vines, flowers, and leaves.
“Thank you!” I say.
I woke up to a misted covered forest and fairies surrounding me with food. “Here is your breakfast!” Flora Mae says with a sweet angelic voice.
“Thank you but I really have to go now, I am only supposed to take two days to adventure, and this is my second. If I want to get home in time then I will have to leave now.”
“We understand. Safe travels!” Orange Paradise says.
I grabbed my bag and waved goodbye to the fairies. It was a long walk, but I finally could hear the sounds of the waves crashing down on the shore. The sounds reminded me of an alarm clock, it always repeated the same pattern and remained in sync the entire time. I start to head North from the beach and walk towards the glowing crystals. I can see my campsite up ahead! As I get closer and closer I can see some familiar faces. I drop my bag and run to my friends.
“Did you guys miss me!” I ask with a smile.
“Of course we did!” They speak. I show the head of our research program all my findings. The fairies, the healing waterfall, the glowing flowers, the killer vines, the animals that change color and my narwal friend! You should have seen Margerate’s face when I showed her my samples of the healing waterfall!
This has been a great journey; I will see you in the next one!
Sincerely, Sophie Chen.
